York St John University bermula dari Akademi Pendidikan Guru yang berdiri di tahun 1841 yang kemudian menjadi universitas publik (universitas dimiliki pemerintah) dan memiliki kurang lebih 100 program gelar mulai dari Foundation Year 1 tahun atau Bacelor (Hons)/Sarjana S1 dari berbagai disiplin ilmu seperti mathematics, data science, biology, biochemistry, nutrition, biomedical science, computer science, film and television production (see filmmaking), media production, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, literature, linguistics, psychology, counselling, business management, marketing, tourism, history, music, music production, art, design, theater, drama, dance, sport , theology dan primary education dengan waktu belajar 3 tahun.
Untuk jenjang Pasca sarjana, York Business School juga menyelenggarakan Master program mulai dari MBA (Master Business Administration), Master International Business serta bidang studi laiinya seperti fine arts, design dan linguistic serta education dengan waktu jangka pendidikan 1 tahun. Beberapa program Pascasarjana S1 seperti Msc Computer Science atau MBA (Master Business Administration) menawarkan juga 1 tahun di Industri.
Kampus utama berlokasi di daerah pariwisata dan pusat kota York yang bersejarah.
